We have insurance coverage at work as one of our benefits and every year it is being renewed. During this time, people who got married can now change their beneficiaries or remove names of parents who are already deceased. It is a good thing though that ours is a nonmedical issue life insurance so newly regularized employees can avail of it without hassles. I just hope the contractual employees have it too, if not from the company but at least from their direct employer/agency.

Wish me luck for the fun run tomorrow. I don’t know my chances of finishing the 5K but they said they will sweep away runners who are not back to the finish line within an hour. Which is more embarrassing? passing out or being swept? Lol!

I actually have an errand to do tomorrow but that is if I can wake up early. If it’s a weekend I usually don’t sleep on Friday nights so I’m asleep on broad daylight of Saturday. Just like an owl, very nocturnal. I only have to go to the mall and see if there’s a store that is a lot like Baldwin hardware so that I can be sure that I can find the cabinet lock I’ve been looking for. I really have to replace the defective lock otherwise cockroaches are basking inside the cabinet and enjoying the comforts of my clothes.

I also need to buy a card reader. I can’t do it on Sunday as well because of the fun run so I really have to scoot now and sleep. But I can’t pass up my daily dose of Kristine series. Sigh.

Most old folks would say that education is one of the greatest gifts they could give to their children. That is why any responsible parent would work the hardest and do whatever they could to send their children to school. Sometimes, i think it’s a pity that kids with affluent parents who are able to send them to school don’t take schooling seriously. And there are these kids who are very eager to go schooling but cannot do so.

I’ve watched documentary shows on TV about education and the government. I believe that education is one of the basic rights of every kid. The government plays a vital role in this area. My heart broke when one of the documentaries featured a very dedicated teacher who would not mind spending almost all of her salary for her students’ food and school supplies. She had to spend her own money otherwise the kids can’t go to school. The parents of the kids would rather have their kids stay at home than let them go to school. Having them go to school would mean expenses on clothes, food, supplies, etc.

At least there are vocational and technical schools now a days that offer less tuition fees, if not free. Graduates can apply for tech jobs here and abroad. Nevertheless, to many, it is still quite a struggle. Finishing elementary and high school is hard enough, let alone college.

When I look back, I’m thankful that despite the hardships growing up, I managed to get a degree. At the end of the day, with God’s (and our parent’s) guidance, maybe it’s just all about attitude and hard work.

They say diamonds are forever. They also say that it’s a girl’s best friend. It must be true because for years, diamond engagement rings are widely and commonly used by the gentlemen as a token of promise as they profess their undying and unwavering love to woman of their dreams. It is what a man usually hands in when he pops the question “will you marry me?”.

One of my good friends has been wearing one since January of this year. The story on how they got engaged was quiet a sweet one albeit embarrassing (in a good way of course). It could have made it to the newspapers and tv news had reporters caught it. Why? My friend’s fiancé proposed at the heart of Sinulog celebration this year. Who would have known it will happen? Well, the hardware boys knew all about it. Now the question is – when are they really tying the knot? We’ll see… you’ll know it when I’ll finally post their wedding pictures.

I never thought that the month of August would entail a lot of food binges. Well, not really, but so far there have been 3 occasions that were purely food trips so it’s just but befitting to seek refuge from detoxufree72 after all those gracious food feasts.

First weekend – it was the birthday of the husband of my colleague/friend, Melody. I’ve never eaten lechon (roasted pig) in months so I was very delighted. And after that dinner, I’ve been craving for lechon! Ay!

Friday, second week – because of the discussion through exchange of emails about Japanese food, me and my friends at work went out for a Japanese food trip. I’m really not a fan of Jap food but I love California maki.

Tuesday, this week – my friend Glorie’s farewell party. There goes the lechon again. Ahh yum!

P.S. I haven’t run in weeks. I don’t know how will I make it through the 1st ever Recoletos (Alma Mater) run without practice. Tsk. As if I’ll run tens of kilometers. Hahah!

Yesterday, Friday, was a non working holiday in the entire province of Cebu. The said holiday was Cebu Province Day. I really don’t know the history or significance of this holiday but i wouldn’t give it much thought. As long as we’re off from work, it’s all that matters. Heheh.

I was gonna find a photocopying/printing shop today to have some important docs copied. My diploma is getting yellowish i want to make sure i have a clean clear copy of it should i need to use it. I’ve heard one store in the mall which has some xerox phaser 8560 that i want to check out but i got so lazy today. I cancel all my to-do-list of the day and slept the entire afternoon instead. So unproductive, but it was also an excuse of me not to go to the malls. That saves me from spending on whatever stuff that i may like. It’s been months that i haven’t bought something for myself. Except of those running apparels that i bought that i seem not to like in the end. Duh!

And speaking of running, there are lots of races this month and next month. I have not joined a single run since late part of June. I will get back to it. But i want to buy a new pair of shoes! Hmnnn…

You know I find it weird when I feel all so sleepy while I’m at the office that I wanted to sleep right at the very moment but feels wide awake when I arrive home. Is it just me or is it a common dilemma among working folks.

I just read an online article about the ideal number of sleep hours a person should have. And the magic number is 7. As far as I remember, the number was 8. But based on recent studies, it is 7. If someone sleeps less or more than 7 hours, he is prone to angina and other cardio vascular diseases. The 7-hour sleep includes nap time. It is encouraged to those who skimp their sleep on weekdays to maximize their sleep on weekends to recover.

Maybe with a perfect mattress, anyone’s sleep can be a wondrous experience especially if you want to sleep in on weekends. I don’t know if ever get the right amount of sleep. On weekdays, I sleep for less than 7 hours. On weekends, I sure sleep more than 7 hours! Maybe it’s high time for me to adopt a healthier sleeping habit. Hmnnnn…

I’m reminiscing my Michigan moments. Some of my former colleagues and old friends are now living and working there. One other former colleague went there for a business trip and might be back anytime next month.

When I went to MI some years ago, there were not much familiar faces to spend time with. There were 2 friends who just moved there but they were busy settling back then. I was with 2 colleagues, male and female. I don’t drive so I just hitched a ride from either of them. I would love to go out and see and explore the city and the state but the female colleague was not into it. The male colleague has no problem driving around but the only place he frequents the most is circuit city and nothing else. Maybe we’d be perfect attendance in an electronic store every afternoon. But it was better than to just stay in the apartment and get bored watching TV and eating popcorn.

I enjoyed my stay but maybe going to MI this time around would be a lot funnier. Going to work wouldn’t be that exhausting knowing that I have more friends to see and meet later or on the weekends. Well…

One of my colleagues sent an invite yesterday for a dinner at a Japanese resto this evening. I had to say no because I arrived at the office late, meaning I can’t leave early, blame it on the heavy rain, and I had some reports to finish first. Now, I’m imagining some mouth watering California maki. Maybe, I’ll invite a friend tomorrow night to end my craving for makis.

There’s also this newly opened restaurant in the mall that has some cool contemporary furniture inside that I can see from their big glass doors. I hope their food tastes as good as their interiors. That I’ll have to check out!

Tomorrow is a Saturday. So maybe I’ll be out because I’m bored to death already or I’ll be home and experimenting cooking fried rice again. Lol! You see, I cook fried rice and mix whatever it is that I’m craving for a particular moment. It’s the easiest thing to prepare, so there.
